Border Model BSF001 1:35 Akagi Bridge with Flight Deck with Nakajima B5N2 Kate
The IJN Akagi was the flagship of Admiral Yamamoto's fleet that attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Now Border offers the bridge and a section of the flight deck of this legendary ship. Use it as a display base for their Nakajima B5N2 Kate or build a diorama just from this kit. The finished display is 56cm long, 50 cm wide, and 40cm high.
The Nakajima B5N1 took its first flight in January of 1937. The aircraft was considered quite advanced as a carrier-based aircraft. The aircraft was designed with a lowered mono wing, which folded for storage and possessed a wide-track retractable landing gear that folded inward. Compared to the Fairey Swordfish and the TBD Devastator, the Kate was far superior but did falter due to its lack of self-defensive armament, necessitating an escort. The B5N1 was phased out in 1939 for the more powerful and faster B5N2. The B5N2 served in a variety of roles throughout the war.
